Why Solo Ads Need Independent Tracking

A solo ad is a paid email blast: you pay a list owner, usually per click, to send their subscribers to your page. You can't see the list, the email or the subscribers, and the vendor's click count is the only number you're given. That makes solo ads one of the traffic sources where independent tracking matters most.

With ClickMagick you give the vendor a tracking link you own. You then see for yourself how many clicks arrived, how many were filtered as bots or duplicates, how many people opted in, and, most importantly, how many bought. For the strategy side, see our full solo ads tracking guide.

Setting Up Solo Ad Tracking in ClickMagick

1. Install tracking on your landing and thank-you pages

Make sure the ClickMagick tracking code is on your opt-in page and your thank-you page. If you haven't done the basic setup yet, follow our ClickMagick setup tutorial first.

2. Create a tracking link for each vendor and order

Create a separate tracking link for every solo ad order, pointing to your opt-in page. Name it so you can compare later, for example solo-vendorname-2026-10-100clicks. Group the links together so all your solo ad results appear side by side.

3. Set up your opt-in and sale conversions

Record an opt-in when someone reaches your thank-you page, and record sales through your checkout integration or affiliate postback. Without sales tracking you'll judge vendors on opt-ins alone, which can reward lists that sign up but never buy.

4. Send the vendor your tracking link

Give the vendor your ClickMagick link, not your raw landing page URL. Many solo ad vendors are used to receiving tracking links and some publish their own stats; yours are the ones to trust.

5. Watch the order as it delivers

Check the link during delivery. Sudden bursts of clicks within seconds, heavy traffic from unexpected countries, or lots of clicks with no page engagement are red flags worth raising with the vendor.

The Numbers That Matter

Top-tier traffic %Share of clicks from the countries you ordered (often US, UK, Canada, Australia)
Opt-in rateSubscribers ÷ unique clicks, comparable across vendors on the same page
Sales and EPCRevenue per click: the number that decides whether to reorder

Filtering Bot and Junk Clicks

All ClickMagick plans include basic bot filtering, and Standard and above add full bot and click-fraud protection. Filtered clicks are separated from real ones in your stats, which gives you evidence when a vendor's delivery looks wrong. ClickMagick claims it filters 99% of bot and fake clicks; whatever the exact rate, having your own filtered count is far better than relying on the vendor's.

Comparing Vendors Fairly

Rotators and Split Tests

ClickMagick rotators send clicks from one link to several destinations. Solo-ad buyers use them to spread one order across several offers or to swap a destination without asking the vendor to change the link. Vendors use them to manage several buyers' links.

For deciding which landing page converts better, use ClickMagick's split testing rather than a basic rotator, so the comparison is set up as a proper test.

If You Sell Solo Ads

Vendors use ClickMagick to prove delivery quality: share your filtered stats, show top-tier percentages and track your own clicks with rotators across buyers' links. Transparent stats help you justify your price and win repeat buyers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do solo ad buyers use ClickMagick?

Solo ads are bought per click from list owners you can't easily verify. ClickMagick lets you send the vendor a tracking link you control, filter bot clicks, and see how many real subscribers and sales each vendor produced.

Which ClickMagick plan do I need for solo ads?

Starter covers most solo-ad buyers who track one funnel and under 10,000 visitors a month. Full bot and click-fraud protection starts on Standard.

What is a good opt-in rate for solo ads?

It varies with your offer and page. Rather than relying on a universal benchmark, compare vendors against each other on the same landing page and track sales, not just opt-ins.

Should I use a rotator for solo ads?

Rotators are useful for vendors who send traffic to several pages, or for spreading clicks across offers. For a fair split test between two landing pages, use split testing rather than a simple rotator.
